Concept of the WCP 2028 Logo

THE XXVI World Congress of Philosophy Tokyo 2028

This emblem represents a perspective of viewing phenomena from a shared horizon.
As in the case of mountains mirrored on the surface of a lake, even when observed from the same ground, the reflected scenery appears transformed according to culture, language, and history. In the Japanese tradition, such reflections are referred to as mizukagami (“water mirrors”), a symbol of penetrating insight, epitomized by the renowned image of Mount Fuji mirrored upon a lake.

The three mountains and their three reflections together signify six principal domains of philosophy:
・Metaphysics (being and reality),・Epistemology (knowledge and belief),・Ethics (morality and value),
・Logic (reasoning),・Aesthetics (beauty and art), ・Social and Political Philosophy (society and governance).

The opening at the center of the mountain range designates an entry point, a space intentionally left open as the locus of dialogue. It is there that distinct domains, traditions, languages, and histories may converge and resonate.

In this regard, the emblem embodies the central theme of the Congress:
“Philosophy: A Place for open Dialogue.”

It further signifies an encounter with the unfamiliar̶an invitation to engage in the transformative possibilities of dialogue across difference.

The logo’s colors, the deep colors of the mountains and of the water, represent the abyss (deepness, profundity),
embodying the image of deep mountains and deep waters.
